Drinko De Mayo Party

Updated: Nov 2, 2020

Theme

I have always wanted to throw a Cinco De Mayo party. However, since all of our friends were busy that day, I decided to move the party to a different day and call it Drinko De Mayo instead.

The theme is pretty much the same as a Cinco De Mayo party which is a celebration of the Mexican culture. You can throw this party any day during May to keep the same name or throw it any other day of the year just because!

Invitation

If you have read about the other parties that I throw, then you would know that I like to create Facebook events for the parties that I throw. It helps me keep track of the guest list and to update the guests of any changes that I need to make. Plus, it gives me a chance to create a cool Facebook event cover photo using one of my favorite apps, Canva. They have tons of templates that are already set up for different social media sites and lots of free graphics and images to use. You should check it out!

Decorations

Party City is where it’s at! They have decorations for every theme idea that I can come up with in my head. The table cloths, banners, plates, napkins, and plastic margarita glasses all came from Party City. I thought it might be hard to find decorations that didn’t say Cinco De Mayo but it was actually pretty easy! Another successful purchase from Party City! And better yet, I bought it all online and had it shipped to the house!

Food

What would a Mexican themed party be without Mexican themed food? The obvious meal of the night was a taco bar complete with Mexican rice and all of the necessary toppings!

Finally, no party is complete without dessert! For this party, I wanted to make churros but quickly realized that I don’t know how to make those normally, let alone make them gluten free and vegan. So I decided to create a churro inspired cupcake. The cupcake itself is a cinnamon cupcake with a chocolate pudding center and a cream cheese frosting topped with cinnamon sugar. Yum!

Drinks

This was probably the easiest part of planning the party: choosing the drinks! We decided to keep it simple and provide Mexican Coca Cola (which is WAY better than the American version of Coke) as well as pre-mixed margarita bottles from Jose Cuervo so all you have to do is pour one out. Both drinks were a huge success!

P.S. I am obsessed with these adorably funny cocktail napkins 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

Games & Activities

My husband and I are huge board game fans so we always pick out a game to play at our parties. This party we decided it would be funny to play a trivia game called America (at a Mexican-themed party). With this game, we split into 2 teams…guys versus girls. Usually the girls don’t like to play trivia games because the guys have a bunch of trivia knowledge trapped in their brains so they always win. However, with this game, you get points for being close to the correct answer so as long as you have a rough idea, you can usually do well in the game. An added bonus too is that if you think the other team doesn’t know the answer, you can bet against them and win points if they are wrong. Overall, it’s a very fun (and educational) party game that everyone can enjoy!
