Wine & Chill Night

Theme

I wanted to have an intimate party with my close friends that just involved hanging out and talking. And what better way to do this than to try different wines and cheeses.

Invitation

So if you have read my party planning post then you know that I create Facebook events for my parties. It’s the easiest way to keep track of who’s coming and to let your guests know what the plans are. Now because I’m a little extra, I wanted to create a Facebook cover for the event. So I found this app called Canva that allows you to create graphics for different social media sites. (Fun fact: I use Canva to create all of my blog photos!) The reason I love this app so much is that it already has hundreds of free templates created for different social media sites and they are already set to the correct size. So I just searched for wine party templates under Facebook covers and ta-da! I found this one below!

Decorations

Now for decorations I wanted to keep it simple. I already had existing silver and gray table cloths for the food tables from a previous party so I decided to play off of them. I found some super cute plastic plates and cocktail napkins at Party City that had silver and gold on them. I also found some chalkboard toothpick tags to help label the different cheeses. As for the table decor, I had flameless candles and eucalyptus Garland from Friendsgiving that I used as a runner.

Food

The food was probably the easiest part of this whole party. When I created the event, I told our friends to bring a wine of their choice and a cheese to pair with it. So half of the cheese and wine would be brought by my guests. That just meant that I needed to provide crackers, meats, and some grapes for snacking. The meats were easy to find at our favorite store Aldi! They already had a pre-packaged variety of meats in their cooler section. Check! As for the crackers, I wanted there to be a variety of gluten free crackers to choose from (as well as regular Ritz crackers for those who like the “real” stuff). So we bought two different flavors of Simple Mills crackers, Rosemary & Sea Salt and Garlic & Herb. I also wanted to try out Lance’s gluten free baked crackers which looked very similar to Ritz crackers. Finally, because of my dairy allergy, I wanted to buy some dairy free cheeses to try for myself. I ended up finding a garlic and herb cashew cheese wheel by Miyoko’s that I was interested in trying out. Also right next to that was an individual slice of dairy free cheddar cheese made by Follow Your Heart. And let me tell you, both of them were amazing! (But you’ll hear more about my dairy free cheeses in an upcoming post 😉)

Games

No party is complete without games. We actually pulled out one of our newest games that we funded on Kickstarter (my husband’s obsession) called Composure. It’s sort of like Cards Against Humanity, in that it’s a very adult party game where each card has a terriblle and/or ridiculous question on it. So, the dealer picks someone at the table to ask the question to and if that person can answer the question without losing their composure (laughing, getting angry, smiling, etc.) then that person wins a point. Once that specific person answers the questions, then the rest of the table can weigh in and try to answer the question as well without losing their composure. The dealer then gives out tokens (points) to players who are keeping their cool until the center pot is empty. The round ends when everyone has lost their composure, or the pot is empty, and then the next player becomes the dealer. It was such a simple and fun game that allowed us all to get to know each other better and enjoy each other’s company.

Stay tuned for next month’s party!
